I know this house very well. The owner, Theresa is a dear friend of mine. She named this one – Herakles House – and I have been there as I wanted to visit more of Peloponnese and especially Nafplio area (too many had people told me Nafplio is the most beautiful city in Greece). I also wanted to see the Ancient Theatre of Epidavros and some other great archeological sites around.
Theresa bought this house in 2023 and renovated most of it. She really enjoys the process of redecorating and styling everything to her needs. It was all done with the living-all-year-round-comfortably concept in mind.
When the works were finished, the place turned out so well equipped and comfortable, she thought it could be a good idea to make the house into an “Airbnb”, when she is not there herself.
She asked me to help her with that, so here it is.
I know this house well and I’ll do my best to describe it in detail, so you know exactly what you get when you book it.
This page only exists because I truly believe it is indeed a nice place. It is the only way it works for me.
There are many great things about Herakles House, but perhaps the most important one is the location. That is in the Peloponnese, in a village called Nea Tiryntha, just 10 minutes drive to Nafplio and 15-30 minutes to all the ancients sites in the area.
Tourism license no (AMA): 00002028936
10 minutes by car to Nafplion;
2-30 minutes to all the ancient sites around (Tirynth, Mycenae, Epidavros). Ancient Corynth is the furthest away (40 minutes);
10-30 minutes drive to many nice beaches around.
Gas central heating with radiators in all rooms, wood log burner, A/C, WiFi, nice thick walls, mosquito nets, blinds
The house is detached and is not meeting any neighbouring houses. In fact, the neighbours are some orange groves. The street is only circulated by the few locals living in this edge of the village.
Herakles House only has the ground floor. Nice and easy. No stairs on the property, except 2 small steps to get on the terrace.
The owner renovated, redesigned and equipped Herakles House for living there all year long. It does feel like a home.
Theresa, the owner of Herakles House is a British lady already living in Greece, on a Greek Island for more than 20 years now. At the end of the page you can get to know her by watching in interview where she speaks about life in Greece, from an foreigner’s point of view. Watch it now if this sounds interesting for you.
As I was saying earlier, she bought this house in 2023. She fell in love with Nafplio a long time ago, since she was sailing in the Peloponnese. After visiting Nafplio for too many times to keep on counting, Theresa finally decided she would like to have a second home base here.
After browsing what was available on the market at that time, all options led to Herakles House. She felt it was perfect. First of all, it was not an apartment. Most offers within her budget were apartments in the city of Nafplio. When she was shown this house, she immediately know this would be her home.
When she bought it, it looked nowhere near how it looks now. It was in a sad state of a home that needed some serious work. Serious work is fun for Theresa. So, within some months she transformed the place to how you see it now in the pictures.
You may have heard of the 12 labours of Herakles, often known as Hercules - which is the Roman translation. His home was the giant fortress of Tiryns, which is just 1.5 km away from the house. The name Herakles means “To The Glory of Hera”. It was an attempt to appease Hera, as his mother was actually the queen of Thebes. His kingdom lay in all of the surrounding area from the fortress of Tiryns, so we felt it fitting, as the house is so close to this famous site… to name it in his honour.

Herakles House sits on a corner of two narrow streets in Nea Tiryntha village. There are no immediate neighbouring houses. The closest houses are on one side only, in the back of the house, across the street.
The plot is large. 1000 sqm large. It is fully fenced and the neighbouring plots are olive groves. The owner has 2 small dogs, one of them finds great pleasure in running from one side of the plot to another, whenever something or someone is moving on the street. That is why she made sure the garden is unescapable. And this is what makes a great choice for people looking for pet-friendly houses in Nafplio area.
The garden has lots of olive trees, plus a walnut, a lemon tree and 2 orange trees. It offers plenty places with natural shade, but also sunny areas, if someone wants to sunbathe on the sun loungers.
I don’t have pictures to show you just yet, but soon there will be a small swimming pool, or as the owner likes to call it – a cuddle puddle. Two loungers will also arrive soon enough.
The house is generously sized at 140 sqm. The terrace is almost as big as the house. I believe this terrace is fantastic. It has a hard rooftop, which is a great thing to have in Greece. You can work on the terrace and spend most of the time when the weather is nice. Even when it’s not, and there is rain, you can still stay there and enjoy looking at it, but without getting soaked.
Meet Grillmeister “the Beast”. A nice large outdoor gas barbecue.
A new plunge pool has just been installed. This is a smaller pool with the diameter 3.5 m, height 1,20 m in a round shape. Very nice to cool off in the summer heat.
It is nice to know you won’t be bumping into each other. The house is huge.
This size of a plot ensures you don’t have any sneaky neighbours attached.
1 king size bed
1 double bed
2 twins beds
All with wardrobe closets in the room.
Yes, only one bathroom for three bedrooms.
The plan is to have a second bathroom in 2025.
There is a funny house rule that works best when having just 1 bathroom:
You need it, close the door.
You don’t, leave the door open.
The kitchen was one of the places that was ripped apart and rebuilt from scratch. The owner went for a chic-rustic look, with plenty of spaces for organising everything nicely.
It is quite a smart setup with a long countertop, that gives so much space to use as you wish.
There is everything you could think of for preparing home-cooked meals. The only thing missing is a dishwasher, but it will probably be there by 2025. Meanwhile someone has to do dishes manually. But the sink is a double one, so at least you can postpone this action for later when you feel like it.
What I loved most about this kitchen was the gas stove. That is something that most houses in Greece don’t offer, as they all go now for the electric stoves.
LARGE FRIDGE/FREEZER
GAS COOKTOP
GAS STOVE
MICROWAVE
COFFEE MAKER (FRENCH PRESS)
kettle
toaster
hand blender
all sorts of dishes
cookware and utensils
A very nice large dining table for 8 is right next to the kitchen. In the same space there is a working desk for those planning to open that laptop during their holiday in Greece.
The living area comes with a sitting area with a sofa and 2 armchairs. The TV is newer than the one in the images, as it has been replaced with a new one recently. It offers Netflix and TV with Greek and foreign channels. Sports channels are also offered, as we all want to see a good match of some sort, from time to time. International news channels, history channels and all that.
The log burner is a serious one and wood is provided for guests to use and enjoy some of the colder days of winter. Even though you will probably also be using the central heating, the fire is “a nice companionship”, as one of my friends often says.
There are 2 powerful units. One in the dining room and one in the master bedroom.
The double and twin bedrooms have ceiling fans with remote control.
Or, if you feel comfortable with your group or family, just leave the bedrooms doors opened so they get some of that A/C too.
The central heating runs with gas from large gas bottles. You don’t need to do anything, as there is a thermostat that automatically sets the temperature for you. The radiators are in all the rooms.
The living room hosts a very powerful log burner for colder days in winter. Feel free to use it if you are experienced. The wood is on the house.
That helps also.
Master Bedroom: sleeps 2 people in one huge bed.
Double bedroom: sleeps 2 people in a normal queen bed.
Twin bedroom: sleeps 2 people in 2 twin beds.
There is one extra folding bed for one more guest.
That makes it good for 7 adults tops.
One baby crib is available, as well as a child high-chair.
An excellent house with a large garden and parking for two cars 10 minutes outside Nafplio. I went with my group, 3 couples, and two dogs. The space is large and comfortable, with a stove and radiator for the cold months. Gas BBQ which they let us use. And above all a great price! I will definitely go again when I can! 👍👍👍

The perfect place to enjoy the history of this historic port and seaside town.
Also within 30 minutes to an hour to visit ancient amphitheatres. One of our group preferred to shop and sit at a seaside restaurant and another visiting historic sites. We were all happy with our time spent here. Thanks Theresa for your hospitality.

I agree with what the Greeks say: “The most beautiful town in Greece”. I guess that says it all.
In 1471 an architect from Bergamo was comissioned to built a “tower fortress” in the middle of the sea, on a small islet. It must have been quite a challenge to design it in the shape of the isle. Take a boat and go see it. It’s something special. Especially because it is still standing in 2024.
Not to be missed. All the fresh-local-in-season-goodies are here at the local street market in Nafplio. It is open twice per week: Wednesdays and Saturdays from early morning until around 1 PM. There are many many vendors with fresh fish and sea food, veggies, fruits, nuts, and everything in between. There are also some vendors with all sorts of cheap things for the home and bargain clothing as well.
Here is where the local fishermen park. If you go around 9, 9.30 in the morning you will find a few of them selling the catch of the day. You are welcome ;).
Venetians built Palamidi Fortress in early 19th century. See all Nafplio from up there while walking through some important still-standing piece of history.
Epidavros is considered to be the most perfectly acoustic amphitheatre in Greece. It was a healing site, a sort of ancient wellbeing center with lots of rituals for healing. If there would be just one site you can visit during your stay, choose this one.
The Lion Gate at Mycenae site is famously known. But where are the heads? Find out by going there.
Nemea. You might have heard of it for the wines. Yes, some of the best wines in Greece come from Nemea. Go and try out the wineries, and while you are there, visit the Ancient Nemea site. It’s nice and Instagrammable.
Ancient Korinthos was one of the most influential cities in Ancient Greece. Go see it if you are up for a 40 minutes drive.
Ancient Tirynth is built out of huge limestone walls and it looks like coming from a cartoon book. It is only 2 minutes away from Herakles House. 8 euros to visit this site. Photo by petra.schniewind on Instagram

I am happy to answer a big fat YES to that. Herakles House is very much pet-friendly. The 1.000 sqm plot is fully fenced, so our furry friends can run freely.
The only thing I kindly ask of you is not to leave them for long periods of time alone in the house.
And of course, in case there are damages please be responsible and cover the costs to repair or replace what has been damaged. Thank you for understanding.
There are no extra costs for bringing your pets with you.
If you are driving from Athens Airport to Herakles House in Nea Tiryntha you need 1 hour and 45 minutes (mostly on highway). Good, flat roads. If you are coming from anywhere else, just type in Herakles House in Google Maps.

Yes, the closest mini market is in the center of Nea Tiryntha village. You can drive for 2 minutes or walk for a less than 10 minutes.
Yes, the village taverna is the center of the village. They serve grilled meat and a few other traditional foods. 2 minutes by car or 10 minutes walk.
Everything you need in terms of shopping is less than 10 minutes away. In Aria (the outskirts of Nafplion) you have Sklavenitis – 8 minutes by car & Lidl – 9 minutes. AB Vasilopolous in Nafplion is 10 minutes drive away..
Try this one. They have a great variety of fresh and matured meat and also some specialities. It’s quite impressive. 8 minutes drive from Herakles House.
The street market in Nafplio is here. A whole street is dedicated to vendors selling their local products each Wednesday and Saturday. It opens early in the morning and closes at around 1 PM. It’s best to go before 10-11 AM.
The closest fishing port is in Nea Kios. If you go there between 9 and 10 in the morning, you should find fishermen selling their catch of the day. Depending on the season, you can find all sorts of fish and local sea food, that you can’t get as fresh anywhere else at the fish shops in Nafplio.
Theresa speaks about her experience of living in Greece as a British for more than 20 years. It’s a 20 minutes long talk, so if you don’t have this time at hand right now, save it for later. It is nice and interesting to watch.
